Hardwood Flooring is more than just a decorating decision. It's a natural choice. Hardwood floors are
environmentally friendly and manufactured from a renewable resource. Plus, a hardwood floor can improve the
environment within your home because it does not trap dust, pollen and other
allergens.

For example
if the floor is being placed at or below the natural soil line an engineered floor should be used. Engineered
hardwood flooring is constructed in ply fashion similar to that of common plywood with an actual hardwood veneer
on the surface, commonly called the “wear layer.” Wear
layers can vary from one prefinished manufacturer to the next. Armstrong Hardwood
floors are available in 3/8” thick, engineered hardwood floor and have a feature they call: "thru-color
construction". What this really means is the top wood ply of each plank has been totally impregnated with
acrylic and stain. The advantage is when a plank is scratched the color doesn't change because the stain and
acrylic go all the way through the top finish ply. Also, since the top ply is totally saturated in acrylic it is
harder than normal. The disadvantages are you can never refinish or re-stain your wood floor and the appearance
looks a little less natural.

The majority
of construction in the United States is plywood over floor joists with basements below. The preferred type of
product would be the more traditional solid 3/4" Armstrong Hardwood that will outlast our lifetimes, providing
it's taken care of properly. Armstrong Hardwoods can also provide all the products needed to completely refinish
your hardwood floors which can be done many times over. In most cases color changes can be made, but requires
very knowledgeable professionals. Remember that wood is a product of nature; therefore, you will see variations
from board to board in all categories. No two boards are ever the same.

Engineered hardwood floors are real hardwood. The only difference is you get a quality product
through the engineering that is far superior to traditional hardwood. With engineered floors, each board is
made of several layers. These layers are piled on top of each other, and are much stronger than traditional
hardwood flooring. With an engineered floor, it will always lay flat; you should never see and buckling or
gaping. Unlike your traditional hardwood, your Mannington hardwood floors can be installed at every level of
your house. From the second store all the way down to the basement, these floors are easy to install because
they are engineered. Traditional hardwood cannot be affixed directly to concrete, but this flooring can be,
saving you time and money.

Mannington hardwood floors pride themselves in a commitment to the environment, but
engineering their floors, they have created many environmental benefits. Engineered flooring uses far less
wood than your traditional hardwood floors saving trees. Also, with the layered technology, the trees that
grow faster and easier are used for the middle layers, saving precious natural resources and keeping costs
down. Instead of having a solid maple floor that may cost the consumer too much, through the engineering they
can use a cheaper, yet still stable ply for the middle layer. Lastly, all of their varnishes and finishes are
water based and don’t contain any harsh chemicals that may harm the environment. It’s great to see a flooring
company that is committed to protecting the environment.
